Italians risk being expelled from UK

migrantsE se il Regno Unito caccia gli italiani come loro cacciano gli immigrati del Tor Sapienza?

David Cameron’s latest speech on the issue of European Union migrants comes a bit as a shock to me as I try to ask myself the whereabouts of the policy of free movement of EU citizens amongst member countries. The policy of free movement of citizens is one of the basic principles of the EU as a body. And we all know how much of advantages this policy has given to wide range of citizens such as students, lecturers and all sorts of labour and man power . The freedom of movement of the EU members within EU countries is, from my own point of view, to be compared to freedom of speech in any civilized nation such as UK, Italy etc

Though in England this restriction is just a proposal and it is yet to be taken to the houses of Parliament, in Germany instead a similar decree has been approved limiting the stay length of EU migrants who are in search of work in the country. This seems to be totally out of the world and absurd. If Europe is the ‘‘home’’ of all members of the EU countries and citizens, it seems unreasonable that an EU citizen should be booted out of any of the member country for not being able to find a job in an ‘’appropriate time’’. The German law says that a EU migrant would lose his or her right to stay in the country if he or she hasn’t had a job or employment prospects within 6 months. The crackdown the UK is preparing against EU migrants instead is requesting a maximum of 6 weeks to look for a job after which the migrant wouldn’t be able to access social and welfare advantages.

The wave of the Euroskeptics such as UKIP of UK, the German AFD and the French Front Nazionale together with the Italian Lega Nord is the main root of such drastic and unprecedented discrimination amongst EU citizens. Countries like UK and Germany are threatening to enforce expulsion measures against member citizen, notwithstanding the freedom of movement guaranteed by the EU law, because they complain about spending too much of their revenue on welfare of the non nationals. They both argued that they should not spend their quota of money devoted to be used for their countrymen and countrywomen on other citizen whose country are saving on the expenses of their welfare since they are not working or living in their country of origin. In other words, their theory is: why should we pay for the social welfare of a neighbouring EU citizen when his or her country of origin is keeping their money. This drastic measure is also attributed to the crisis which we are all going through in the EU and obviously every member country is trying to keep its money for it’s citizen.

What leaves you scratching your head is that some Italians are fighting a ‘‘war’’ against the immigrants who are in the country due to the desperate situation such as war, famine, social and political issues in which they found themselves in their country of origin and some other Italians – about half a million –   in UK and a little less than that figure in Germany would have to face the same tune.   Isn’t that an eye-opener?

The recent discriminative outburst of the Tor Sapienza which we now understand was fueled by the right wing who rebuke and blame the migrants for all their ill-fortune and social problems but on the other hand the same right wing activists go to the politician to speculate and financially exploit the migrants. Some of their phone call was tapped by the police while boasting that migrants bring more money into these right wing ‘‘entrepreneurs’’ dirty pockets more than drug pushing does. We can’t but believe it, especially if you consider that less than 3Euros out of the 35Euros allocated to keep the migrants alive per day gets into their shallow pocket.

So now that we have just learnt that more than half a million of Italians are in UK for a better life and they might be thrown out of the country if they don’t find a job is a given time we should start asking ourselves what the heck is happening in our world of today.

I do not agree that Italians should be kicked out of UK or deprived of having some social benefits just because they are not contributing to the social welfare nor do I agree that kicking out the migrants at Tor Sapienza, in Rome is an answer to the social issue that quarters and the whole country is going through. Let’s use our common sense.

Enjoy!
